Walton Hall Academy enters the First Tech Challenge!

The First Tech challenge is a national competition where students from across the U.K build a robot from scratch!  Students are supplied with the tools and equipment that enable them to build a robot using their engineering, computing and design skills.

Working in a group of 10, they work together, to build a robot that can compete in the Rover Ruckus, a challenge that will see robots climb, hang, manoeuvre, pick up and drop off vital minerals in a simulated off planet structure. And if this wasn’t complicated enough, they do it independently!

The students have been building for a few weeks now, and are about to complete work on their very first drive train!  It all sounds very daunting but the students are taking it all in their stride and we hope to have our full robot built by mid-February, so watch this space! The enthusiasm that they display is truly infectious.  The UK final will be held at the BIG BANG at the NEC in Birmingham during March 2019 and the winning team will get an all expenses trip to Detroit USA with the opportunity of competing in the Global finale!

We wish our future engineers, coders and designers all the luck in the world!
