Music at Walton Hall Academy

We are very passionate about performance at Walton Hall Academy! We have a large music room in the Old Hall which is well equipped with a range of instruments. We also have our own music recording studio where the students can make their own CDs for Christmas and other occasions.

In Key Stage 3 (and Key Stage 4 CIPP group) our students have weekly music lessons following a programme to develop their skills and communication.

On Thursdays (for Key stage 3 and 4 CIPP groups) we have a more bespoke Music Therapy provision led by a trained music therapy specialist – this is delivered on an individual or small group basis.

We also have a very large school choir called “Shine On” who perform in the local community and at venues such as the Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford.

At lunchtimes we have “School of Rock” – several student bands who enjoy rehearsing and performing together.  We also facilitate a small number of weekly instrumental lessons from our own talented staff.

At Key Stages 4 and 5 we run (subject to student interest/ choice) BTEC accreditation in Music Technology, Performing Arts and Radio. This allows the students to develop their performance confidence in a vocational context.

The academy has recently secured three projects with the charity “Make Some Noise” and in addition to an afterschool music session for students in residence, we will be launching the Beatbox orchestra and iPad orchestra in January 2019.
