What do we do?

At Walton Hall Academy we believe in creating a nurturing environment where every young person can grow and develop so that they can flourish into adulthood. Our curriculum is carefully designed to meet each student’s individual needs identified in their EHCP, equipping them not only with academic knowledge, but with life skills, personal development, independence, resilience and confidence for their future.

How do we do it?

We provide a broad, balanced and personalised curriculum recognising that our learners follow different pathways, require different styles of learning and methods of delivery, and have different Education, Health and Care plan desired outcomes.

Our curriculum focusses on developing the students holistically giving them opportunities to meet desired outcomes in all four areas of SEND (Communication and interaction, Cognition and learning, Social, emotional and mental health, Physical and Sensory) throughout their timetable.

Across the school we deliver core academic subjects. We enhance this with a great focus on personal development and preparation for adulthood. Preparation for adulthood lessons (PSHE, Independence and Careers) are embedded into our timetables and delivered to all key stages and pathways. As students’ progress through the school vocational studies are introduced. We offer a broad range of vocational options to our students in key stages 4 and 5. We aim for these to prepare them well for future life choices through gaining meaningful and appropriate qualification.

To enhance the delivery of our curriculum we ensure that we fully utilise the extensive grounds and amazing resources that we are blessed with. We also encourage teachers to take learning outside of the classroom so that students have opportunities to apply what they have learnt into practice and within their local community.

Why do we do it?

We offer this curriculum to enable us to nurture each learner’s potential, enable them to grow in knowledge, skills and independence, and support them to flourish into adulthood. We want to ensure that our students leave us as prepared, confident, empowered, independent and resilient young adults ready to thrive beyond school.
