What do we do?

At Walton Hall Academy, Post-16 is a unique stage of learning, designed to help each young person grow in confidence, independence, and self-belief while preparing for life beyond school.  We provide a supportive and engaging environment where young people can explore their interests, develop practical and academic skills, and engage meaningfully with their communities.  Our aim is to raise aspirations for all and offer personalised pathways so that each young person can discover their strengths, pursue their goals, and take positive steps toward a happy and fulfilling future.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is carefully tailored to the needs, abilities, and interests of each young person.  They follow core lessons in maths and English, alongside options and enrichment activities such as creative projects, BTEC programmes, and vocational courses.  They also take part in Preparation for Adulthood lessons, covering PSHE, independence, careers education, and community engagement.  For young people who need additional support, our foundation programme strengthens maths and English skills, helping them fully access their learning and build confidence.

Timetable

Post-16 runs five days a week, balancing classroom learning, independent study, practical activities, and enrichment experiences.  Fridays are tailored to individual needs, giving our young people on work experience the time and space to develop employability and life skills in real-world settings.

Qualifications

Our young people work towards a range of meaningful qualifications that suit their abilities and interests, including BTEC, GCSE, Functional Skills, and other vocational awards. Alongside these qualifications, we focus on developing the practical and personal skills that will help our young people thrive in adulthood.

Why do we do it?

By the time our young people leave Walton Hall Academy, they are more confident, independent, and ready to take the next steps in their journey.  Success is measured not just by qualifications, but by growth in resilience, communication, and self-belief.  Our young people gain valuable work experience, become more capable in daily life, and engage positively with their communities.  Ultimately, we aim for every young person to leave with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue their next steps and to flourish into adulthood.
